OKAY hear me out. This escape room is a much older room and could easily be considered outdated due to all of the technology the newer escape rooms have to offer…HOWEVER this has a special place in my heart. Not only am I a sucker for fantasy-type themes… this escape room introduced a lot of mechanics (I won’t say what they are) at the time that were unique and game changing compared to traditional escape rooms. Coupled with great company and exciting times, this room can only be in my top list for biased reasons. 🙂

The Tree of Life is dying and you must do what you can to save it!! The fantasy themed decorations create a cute and quaint environment, supported by interesting background noises enhancing the mysterious and magical atmosphere. The room is story-driven, so as you journey through… the ambiance changes as the story progresses. The puzzles stay true to the theme and are unique.

Like I said before, this room has a special place in my heart as per all of the reasons above. I would recommend the room even now, just because I truly believe it is an enjoyable experience even now!

You and your fellow human beings have been captured by rats for experimentation by Ratkenstein! You are put to the test in this flip-flopped world where humans are the test subjects instead. The unique theme of this room is like none other where you are pulled into a world where you are expected to run a series of tests and challenges put together by rats. The setup and ambiance of the room really made me feel trapped and it was amazing.

The unique theme is reflected in the puzzles, though not impossibly difficult – but reflective of the environment. There were some surprising moments that made this room exciting and dynamic, which was supplemented by Ratkenstein’s quirky personality.

I highly recommend this room based off of the theme and story-driven experience! There is a reason why this escape room has made number 1 on a variety of top escape room lists over the years.

THE GREAT HOUDINI ESCAPE ROOM

The Great Houdini Escape Room from Palace Games was the first escape room I had ever done from this company. One of their older rooms, but definitely one of the best during it’s time! This room can be very challenging for beginners so the suggestion is to attempt it after having some experience with other escape rooms! Although older, the vibe and ambiance is very apparent as you enter the room. Tested by the Master Escape Artist Houdini himself, it is up to your logic and wits to come out on top.

Mysterious puzzles are scattered throughout the room, so everybody will be very busy. The puzzle density is perfect for large groups and the variety has charm that influences the theme of the room. The strongpoint of this escape room is the quality of puzzles you will encounter, and given the difficulty it will be rewarding once solved.

I highly recommend giving this room a go if you are looking for a unique theme with strong puzzle variety and difficulty.

For Palace Games, I’d recommend playing in order of release.

THE ROOSEVELT ESCAPE ROOM

The Roosevelt Escape room is Palace Games’ second escape room to enter the market and it does not disappoint! Definitely a huge step up in terms of theme compared to the Houdini Escape Room and just as equal in terms of puzzle quality. This escape room is definitely not for beginners and I would recommend having done a few other rooms before tackling this one.

The theme for this room is American History as you follow the guidance of Former president Theodore Roosevelt. You are put to the test with difficult challenges since World War I is just around the corner. The ambiance of this room is dynamic as you progress through the room. The puzzles add to the theme as you journey through the challenges set forth before you.

The puzzles are challenging, but not impossible. With some logic and teamwork even the most difficult puzzle is solvable. The room presents many puzzles and is partly linear and partly not. This presents a great mix of puzzles for large groups and everyone is always contributing.

What stands out most from this escape room is the journey you embark as you progress through the room. The only reason why I did not give this room a 10/10 is because I wanted my #1 escape room to be the sole 10/10 rating, which is also an escape room from Palace Games as of September 2021. Would highly recommend this room!

THE EDISON ESCAPE ROOM

Oh boy! This escape room is amazing… it will completely, absolutely blow your mind compared to standard/traditional escape rooms. If you have not had a chance to experience this room, I highly recommend you get a start on that if you are an escape room enthusiast. The price point is slightly higher than other escape rooms, but it is very worth it!

The basis of this room is that you are exploring the laboratory of the great 20th century inventor Thomas Edison. The contents of the room have been hidden all this time and you are lucky enough to be one of the few to explore it. From a glance the theme does not seem as exciting unless you are really into inventors, but it makes sense as you go through the room and puzzles. There is a mysterious and inquisitive ambiance throughout, which I enjoyed.

All of the puzzles fit very well with the theme and add to the ambiance as you progress. The quality of puzzles meshed with innovative technology is what makes this room so exciting. I was very surprised with the technology the room had to offer. The puzzles are challenging and fair with no need of outside knowledge.

Final verdict on this escape room is that I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in escape rooms. This is not a beginner friendly room, so definitely would advise to revisit once you get more under your belt! Palace Games is amazing and looking forward to what is more to come with this company!!

Spiritfarer (Switch)

On my search to find cozy game titles to relax to, I stumbled upon the cute and quaint game Spiritfarer on the Nintendo Switch. I am no stranger to management type games and was intrigued by the contained boat style. I could perform a majority of tasks which includes farming, cooking, building, fishing and more. I had to obtain resources to further progress and upgrade these buildings … and in order to do so I sailed the world with the main character Stella and her cute white cat Daffodil. The overall gameplay was fairly simple and intuitive. As you progress through the story you unlock more skills to reach areas on each island that you would not have been able to before. The game is very forgiving as it focuses more on the ambiance, story and theme. Though I did run into some strange bugs at times…

The game’s aesthetic and OST was nothing less than charming and relaxing, however the plot gave off a more melancholy type feel due to the roots in Greek Mythology. During the introduction Stella finds herself as now the spiritfarer who was given the role to guide spirits back to the Everdoor. During my travels I met eccentric spirits that had some sort of heavy burden that was keeping them from moving on through the Everdoor. I was surprised at how much care was put into each character and the depths of their burdens that they had to carry. The plot was most surprising with dark and thoughtful themes.

If you are looking for a chill and easy management type game with thoughtful characters, I would recommend this title for sure! It fits the bill of what I was in the mood to play.
