How to: 3D Pokemon Card

Anyone who buys a bunch of Pokemon Cards knows one thing, they will end up with a ton of duplicates! What do we do with those duplicates? Make a 3D Pokemon card! So…I dusted off my boxes of duplicates and scavenged for some cute Pokemon Cards to use.

Here is my attempt at creating a Wailmer 3D Pokemon card to display.

First, you need your materials which includes: duplicates of the main Pokemon card, a box cutter, glue, filler cards such as energies or TCG codes and finally a bit of paint for the detailing.

You want to start by mapping out the layers of your 3D piece. Which part of the image do you want to go in front? Which part do you want in the back? Where do you want more depth. Also do not forget to consider one of the duplicates as a background and one for the front piece. Below, I have cut out all of the layers, starting from right to left, front to back!

Then, you need to start cutting your filler pieces to create depth. I decided to separate each layer with 3 filler cards with the exception of there being 5 filler cards between the wailmer layer and the front wave layer. I used another Pokemon card as a stencil to draw on the boxes that need to be cut from the filler cards.

Starting from the background layer, glue piece by piece with the filler layer cards in between each layer. Make sure the cards are straight and clean up any glue messes! It will create the cool depth effect.

Once I was satisfied and the glue dried, I went ahead and painted the edges of the cards for a finishing touch!

Ta-dah!

PANDEMIC ZERO

Pandemic Zero is one of Omescape’s older escape rooms. There is a Pandemic!!! A super-virus going around… and unfortunately due to lack of bodies they have chosen you and your team to go find the secret lab for the cure! You must venture down to the sewers and make your way to this secret location before it is too late…

Pandemic Zero is by all means not a bad escape room, just unfortunately due to the technology these days that modern escape rooms can bring, it may seem a bit lackluster. It is an escape room worth giving a try though… due to the theme. The puzzles were not difficult, but was fitting to the theme. Due to this escape room being a bit older there were some parts where it may seem to be clunky. The intention was there though.

Omescape overall is my go-to recommendation for a solid escape room company for this area.

THE KINGDOM OF CATS

This escape room is the first in the Kingdom of Cat series… while the second and newer room is located in the Sunnyvale location. The premise is that you are captured by the kingdom of cats and you must do whatever you can to escape from being a prisoner in their world! Kingdom of Cats is touted as a beginner friendly escape room and I completely agree. My co-worker and I completed this room as a two-person team way back.

The theme is very adorable and unique, which makes it worth the try. The escape room in general is pretty solid, with cute themed puzzles to immerse the participants into the world as if they are really all cats. Due to the climbing escape room standards, you can tell that this room is much older. However, it is well-decorated and has some wow factors making you appreciate the company’s approach. Just remember to wear comforable shoes!

Omescape overall is my go-to recommendation for a solid escape room company for this area.

The second addition to the Kingdom of Cats storyline… the first room being in the San Jose location. This escape room is best done with a smaller group size. I had the pleasure of doing this escape room with a group of three as we ventured to go save Lady Aurora, the rightful heir to the Kingdom of Cats!

The overall theme is very cute and fun. Imagine a world created just for cats with all of their quirks considered in the detailed decorations. If you enjoyed the first room, this escape room is definitely a must. All the puzzles were thematic, but not difficult. This escape room was the first escape room one of my friends had ever done which showcases how beginner friendly this series is. Omescape put a lot of effort into fleshing out this adorable theme and they did a really great job!

Omescape overall is my go-to recommendation for a solid escape room company.

Forsaken Temple at Omescape was the first escape room I had done at the Sunnyvale location. It definitely sets the tone for the following rooms for sure. The amazing decorations and thematic puzzles all add to the theme and vibe. The premise is that you are part of a rescue team in search of the archaeologist that is lost and too scared to make their way back! Failure on their part in terms of recruitment because I’m also scared….

I had the pleasure of doing this escape room with my co-workers. The overall experience of the group was probably at a mid-level. Definitely not beginners! There were some spooky/cool exciting moments that made the escape room memorable. The puzzles were solid and not unfair. Would recommend!

Omescape overall is my go-to recommendation for a solid escape room company.

This was the first Omescape escape room I have ever done! During it’s time it was one of the most memorable and unique escape rooms around. It definitely converted me into an Omescape fan. There were many new mechanics that were introduced that escape rooms did not have at the time. Also, the theme is a FANTASY magic theme, what more can you want!

The premise is that you somehow ended up in a house with great magicians and you need go through a series of puzzles in order to escape! Let’s say the exciting part is that certain people in your group will start with different experiences…without spoiling too much. The decorations are beautiful and really stay true to the theme. The puzzles all add their unique feel to the ambiance where it makes you feel like you are really in a home full of wizards.

Omescape overall is my go-to recommendation for a solid escape room company. I would definitely recommend this room to others even now! This is my favorite room in the San Jose location by far!

Darkest Dungeon (Steam)

Darkest Dungeon by Red Hook Studios… is amazing! To be completely honest this indie game was not on my radar AT ALL. However after much recommendation from my significant other whom was also playing the gothic-style game at the same time… I decided to give it a go. It is a huge understatement to stay that this game is challenging.

This title is all about party and stat management while also making the best of a bad situation. The game throws many hurdles at you that could eventually lead to death. You will need to manage a four person team with constricting issues such as depleted health, accumulating stress, affliction statuses and more. You are put into unfair situations where you only have your wits to survive. If one of your team members is unlucky enough to meet there demise… depending on the mode you choose, they may be driven to the graveyard. FOREVER! You will need to make turn-based decisions and try your best to keep your team alive as you travel to the darkest dungeon.

For my playthrough I decided to go with the default difficulty level. In this mode if your character dies, they are sent to the graveyard and is further unusable. In the past I have had experience playing this type of game before where if the team member dies, they are gone forever. I find this type of mechanic enjoyable because it adds more value to each team member and you are forced to make carefully calculated decisions to avoid the inevitable. It adds a uniqueness to each character as well because you need to “care” more about them. In Darkest Dungeon there are ample amounts of classes to choose from where you can cosmetically customize each one. Due to the variety of classes, I had a lot of fun being creative with forming my teams per each situation. There are different zones with their own unique set of monsters and themed bosses to go with it. After a grueling 80 or so hours later… I DID IT! I had defeated the darkest dungeon and man did it feel good.

After completing this game, I can say with confidence that this game is not for everyone. The difficulty could be off-putting for some, but if you find that enjoyable then I HIGHLY recommend this title. Another option is to opt for the Radiant difficulty, which is the easier game mode. This is not a game for the faint hearted and it is expected to sink many hours and work to complete it. BUT when you do beat the game, it is all worth it!!!

CHAOS IN GALLERIA

This room is from Omescape’s newest location as of right now in the bay area. At this point in time it one of the best from this location! You are brought to the galleria to assist thieves that had unsuccessfully stolen the 5th largest diamond. It is up to you to recover this diamond or caught red-handed by the authorities.

When I first booked this room, I wasn’t completely certain how the theme of this room would play out. The concept is cool, but depending on what the vibe of the room is, it could be either really great… or not. I was pleasantly surprised on the progression of the room and the story was cute. Each area had themed puzzles that greatly added to the decorations of the escape room. A lot of adorable and memorable moments that this company did a great job with. The puzzle difficulty can be slightly difficult, but doable! When we got stuck, we would swap people to get a fresh outlook of the puzzles.

Omescape overall is my go-to recommendation for a solid escape room company. I would definitely recommend this room to others!

THE STUDY

Rating: 9/10
Theme/Ambiance – 10/10
Puzzles – 7/10
Difficulty – 7/10
Excitement/Fun – 10/10

Location: Los Angeles, CA

After escaping The Basement from serial killer Edward Tandy you find yourself in his Study. It is challenging and scary as you find yourself trying to escape from the mad man…

This was actually the first escape room I had EVER done way back in December 2015. It was introduced by some of my very good friends and I knew NOTHING going into it. Not what we were going to be doing, not what it was going to be like, NOTHING! Little did I know that it would jumpstart my escape room craze. Since then I have been an enthusiast for sure, always on the look out for the next exciting escape room. When we travel we always try to do some research to see if if there is a popular escape room in the area.

Thinking back, this escape room was one of THE best during it’s time. The puzzles were not difficult, but the room is carried by the environment and experience. Even NOW I would recommend The Basement series to others because it is just one of those that you just need to experience. There are aspects of this room even now that differentiate this room greatly from traditional escape rooms. If you ask anyone that knew me, I am a HUGE scaredy-cat and avoid anything and everything horror-related. So going into this room blind was a huge shock for me, but even so – it was an experience not worth missing and I am glad I gave it a chance.

I highly recommend this room if you are looking for a story-driven experience and something very different! If you have already done the first room “The Basement” you already know what to expect and this escape room will only take you deeper into the spooky storyline.

I recommend playing The Basement series in story-line order.
